JODY WATLEY Looking For A New Love
Simply one of the best funk records of 1987; heck one of the best of any kind of genre that year! Although Jody Watley had been kicking around for a decade and had been part of the successful group Shalamar, it was 'Looking For A New Love' and the self titled solo debut album that made her a star! Controversially winning the Grammy for Best New Artist, despite her career already established, the long player yielded an incredible 5 singles over a 15 month period, and helping it reach more than 4 million album sales worldwide.
'Looking For A New Love' is also noteworthy for the use of the phrase 'Hasta La Vista, Baby' that the entire globe came to recognise and use, after Schwarzenegger uttered it 4 years later in 'Terminator 2'. The single was a massive hit in America and it was a moderate success in Australia and England where it peaked at #13. In New Zealand, they liked it more, making it a #5 hit. MTV played an extended club mix video of it back in the day and although I recorded it, it wasn't on my transfer material when I was converting the VHS-DVD to MP4 recently. But other youtubers have that video. I just have the original single clip which I have restriped the off air audio with a better mp3 and topped and tailed for a complete post.
