ERIC CLAPTON I've Got A Rock & Roll Heart
I didn't know this track until I trawled through the 1983 Australian chart this week. I had known Eric Clapton for 'Lay Down Sally' and 'Cocaine' before this. and of course his Grammy winning performance on 'Tears In Heaven' made him popular for a second generation of fans. 'I've Got A Rock & Roll Heart' is a little bit country, a little bit rock & roll and quintessential Clapton. Issued as a single from his 'Money & Cigarettes' LP in early 1983, the song would fare best in America, where it peaked at #18. In Britain (#83) and Australia (#81) it would flop but Canada and New Zealand liked it better. Eric Clapton has had an enduring and powerful career that has been in progress for a staggering 60 years! His guitar work is exemplary, and his singing and songwriting have made him one of the best-known musicians of the 20th Century. He most certainly has a rock & roll heart!
