Traditionally, Jülich residents were able to obtain information from a local daily newspaper. The Jülich Kreisblatt celebrated its 100th anniversary in 1923. Its publishers, Joseph and Adolf Fischer, were also politically active for over sixty years. That is why her newspaper was also close to her party, the Catholic “Zenrum”. In the 1920s, new information media were added: newsreels reported on current events in cinemas. Radio receivers became cheaper and cheaper and were used by the Nazis for propaganda. From then on, there was also local reporting in Jülich by the Nazi newspaper Westdeutscher Beobachter. Freedom of the press only existed for a few years.
