Who Will Be The Starting SHOOTING GUARD Alongside Steph Curry?
In this video, I'm going to touch on who will be the starting shooting guard alongside Steph Curry for the Golden State Warriors. After a disappointing ending last season, the Warriors are looking to get back into title contention. They had a good offseason in collecting role-player pieces that are able to connect with the Warrior's systems in many different ways. But unfortunately, the search for a reliable secondary scorer to alleviate some of the offensive load for Stephen Curry has still yet to be completed. This raises a ton of doubt on whether or not the Warriors will be able to get back to the promised land after two failed previous seasons.
However, the most important question that needs to be addressed here is who will be the starting 2 guard for this team as Klay Thompson is no longer a part of the team. Throughout preseason, many of the Warrior guards have played tremendously well. It is widely reported that the Warriors have a lot of shooting depth and offensive talent to crack the rotation. Brandin Podziemski, Buddy Hield, De'Anthony Melton, and Moses Moody are the leading contenders for the vacant starting shooting guard position. All of them bring 1 common asset to the table and that's the ability to space the floor. However, each player does bring something different as well, which can make the decision very difficult.
But the most common misconception is that the starting 2 guard has to replicate Klay Thomspon and that's just simply not true. In fact, no one besides Buddy Hield has been able to mimic what Klay Thompson can do on the floor. Ever since Steve Kerr mentioned that he wants the Warriors to be a high-volume 3-point shooting team, the usage, and shots that Klay Thompson would previously take are now evenly distributed to many other players on the team. Not to also mention the fact that all of the Warrior guards/wings can comfortably shoot on the move. Whether it's the new signings like Melton, Hield, and Waters. Or the returning ones like Moody, Wiggins, and Kuminga. This is already enough to reduce the pressure of the shooting guard having to only be the one to provide a movement shooting presence since everyone else can do it as well.
The Warriors opted to test out a big starting lineup in the preseason with Steph, Wiggins, Kuminga, Draymond, and TJD and that group looked great on both ends. There's a lot of motion, spacing ability, length, and athleticism with that lineup that it very well could be the one moving forward. However, besides that lineup there just might be a player on the Warriors who has played the 2 for all of his career that can help the Warriors immensely on both ends of the floor.
