This is a Jacky Winter, one of my favourite bush birds. It's a member of the Australasian Robins family Petroicidae. These birds are not related to the Old World robins.

The first part of its scientific name doesn't make much sense to me, but the second part does.

Microeca fascinans
Microeca = Greek for "small house"
fascinans = Latin for "bewitch" or "cast a spell" or "enchant"

'fascinans' is appropriate because Jacky Winter will perch on a twig or grass stem in an open area and scan for invertebrate prey. It's fascinated with its task of catching food.

I love to photograph Jackys because they are confiding and active, and their plumage has an appealing aesthetic in austere habitat, particularly in dry times, as depicted here.

The video includes a composite blend of two images shot at the same time and place.

I welcome any comments, feedback, or questions about this work and the techniques I use. I'm retired, not selling anything, and interested in sharing information that may be of use to others.
