· Ingredients
2 pre-made pie crusts
4 large red apples
1 tbsp granulated sugar
1 tbsp ground cinnamon
7 tbsp (½ cup) unsalted butter
3 tbsp all-purpose flour
1 cup granulated sugar
1 egg
Directions:
1. Peel and thinly slice the apples. Place the slices in a bowl and mix them with 1 tablespoon of sugar and the cinnamon until well coated.
2. In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add 1 cup of sugar and stir until it caramelizes.
3. Add the apple slices to the skillet, stir well, then remove from heat. Let the mixture cool.
4. Butter a round pie dish and line it with one of the pie crusts. Pour the apple filling into the crust and cover with the second pie crust. Brush the top with a beaten egg and sprinkle with a little sugar.
5. Preheat the oven to 425°F. Bake the pie for 15 minutes, then reduce the temperature to 350°F without opening the oven. Continue baking for another 40 minutes.
