DAVE'S TOP 10 MOVIES 2018 #9 Fog In August
I am drawn to arthouse cinema and often international storytellers have some of the most insightful and intrepid tales to tell. 'Fog In August' is a German feature which depicts the heinous historic event of a Nazi Euthanasia program. Although heavy in content, this brilliant film shows the resilience and courage of children and one boy in particular who discovers the truth of what is going on once he is imprisoned in an institution and attempts to escape and save other children awaiting a similar fate. You might think that cinema has already mined the Holocaust and the Fascist years but 'Fog In August; is a reminder of what horrors can and have occurred when power is not questioned or controlled when atrocities are committed. Ivo Pietzcker as Ernst the young boy is outstanding and internationally renowned Sebastian Koch is brilliant as the sinister doctor in charge of the hospital.
