The mid '70s to the mid '80s was the golden era of AOR, in my view, and during this period, there were a number of awesome solo male guitarists with wonderful voices who produced some amazing music.

Boz Scaggs is one of those, although he was and is so much more than "just" an AOR artist, given his musical roots in the '60s and the breadth and depth of his body of music. His music draws on so many genres, from jazz and blues to pop and rock.

In the 2000s, I got to see Boz Scaggs several times at Blue Note Tokyo and each time it was special. Such a small, intimate venue that was perfect for him and his music. And one of my favorite songs from those shows was "Harbor Lights". It was not that I didn't love the song before. It was just that seeing it performed live and how he and the band played it live just took it to another level.

And that is what this live version from 2004 captures. Which was around the same time as one of his shows that I went to in Japan. This performance of "Harbor Lights" is absolute perfection. From Boz himself, to the backing vocals, to the piano keyboard solo, and, of course, the sax solo to close it out.

Musical perfection!
