Miracle Monarch Butterfly Emerges From Damaged Chrysalis: A Rescue Story!
Miracle the Monarch Butterfly pupated under a leaf without enough clearance. When his chrysalis hardened, it had a significant indent and wrinkled cuticle over the ventral abdomen and wing tips. Sometimes these cases survive and the butterflies develop normally; sometimes not. We placed this one on padding and kept him humid and warm. We were SO surprised and excited to see his colors coming through as he neared full development. The tense moments began when he was ready to emerge. His moment of truth had arrived.
