Expert Dr. John Massey, MD, discusses in great detail what causes addiction to pain medication. He begins by stating that people in pain are miserable. Their life is full of pain and cannot move, and when they are exposed to strong drugs that release dopamine and eradicate the pain. And therefore they need the high of feeling that. Once people are exposed to this, opioids or oxycodone, they become physically dependent on that drug in order to daily activities. And if one day they don't take it, the patient would have withdrawals. This does not necessarily make the patient an addict, its just simply physically dependency.
