Does smoking add any risks for getting breast cancer? Studies have shown that if you smoke and are a female, you are at 4.4 times the relative risk for developing breast cancer. This places you in the same risk factor range as someone who has a family history such as a mother or sister that has had breast cancer. If you are a passive smoker, the risk is less severe. That means if you have had second hand smoke you are about 2 times more than the relative risk of contracting breast cancer. If you look to decrease your risk for developing breast cancer, you should quit smoking.
