WNCN NBC 17 News at 11pm - Full Newscast - (July 2000)
This is the 11pm newscast on WNCN during the NBC days. The exact date of this WNCN-TV newscast is unknown however it wasn’t a weekend newscast. During this time the station was going through a transition which explains the rough job of an open, they were rebranding themselves once again and changing the logos. Another obvious sign in transition is that they were starting to phase out “The Great News Package” by Gari Media Group, that they had since the news department inception in 1995. and started to partially using the “NBC10 News Theme” by Eve Songs that Philadelphia NBC station WCAU had been using for a few years at the time at first it was with the intros, but the rest of the newscast still had cuts with the prior theme. At this time Sharon Delaney was either morning or weekend evening anchor at this time i’m not sure. The actual weeknight anchors at the time were Donna Gregory and Byron Day, Donna recently made headlines for a cancer diagnosis, and Byron was recently at WALA in Mobile, Alabama. The weather was done by Lisa Spencer who now in Nashville at WSMV and at the time was the last remaining holdout of the original founding news team, and Bobby Estill who was formerly at WLFL as sports director who crossed over I-40 literally (as both stations are located on both sides of that highway if you live in Raleigh you’ll understand), to join WNCN as sports anchor a few years prior. Overall the station was still struggling at this time and had several NDs and GMs within 5 years, that cause on-air turnover to become frequent and they had problem making a dent in the ratings. Till this day WNCN has switched affiliates to CBS and still struggles in Raleigh. But this was a solid news product that felt more like a small market newscast in the year 2000 Raleigh was in the top 30 tv market this newscast felt like a top 50 newscast. But the presenters and reporters were solid, and it felt like a stable broadcast though. This VHS tape I found I did not record it. Message me for removal.
