WPVI Action News at 6pm Open - New Graphics Debut - 3/12/2024
After accidentally keying out one of the new opens in the graphics package over the weekend, WPVI debuted the new mandate ABC O&O graphics package and this time it was the full roll out. I thought PVI’ would be last station because there opens as you know are video montage plus there iconic MCTYW both of them cannot not be touched or updated or else a riot breaks out in Philly. So WPVI interpreted the look little differently with the open being different then the regular open that all the other O&Os use in the package with the title card being different, otherwise the rest of the package is the same. As you know they’ve had the new weather portion of the graphics package for a little over a year now. So that now leaves KABC in Los Angeles as the last station to debut heck they haven’t even debuted the weather portion. We were hoping that station would be the second to last to debut it over Philly because this past weekend was the Oscars and that station produces a lot of programming for that, but they didn’t debut them. Overall WPVI did a good job preserving there traditions especially MCTYW we all know what happened in 1996, they tried changing the theme and they FAFO, they haven’t changed it since.
