In this repair video I diagnose a Sony PlayStation 3 CECH-E01 that works normally in the menu but shuts down during gameplay.

Instead of opening the console immediately and using a UART reader, I show how to diagnose the problem directly from the system using a USB drive and the powerful PS3 Advanced Toolset.

By reading the system error logs we discover that the console repeatedly reports Error 1001 and Error 1002, which are commonly linked to failing NEC/Tokin Proadlizer capacitor capacitors used to stabilize power for the Cell CPU and RSX GPU.

In this video, I also delid both the Cell CPU and RSX GPU, improving thermal performance and ensuring stable operation under load — a step that is rarely shown in PS3 repairs.

These capacitors are known to degrade over time in early PS3 models. When they fail, the system may appear to work normally in the XMB menu but shut down as soon as the CPU and GPU are placed under load during gameplay.

In this video I demonstrate:

• How to diagnose PS3 hardware problems without using UART
• How to use PS3 Advanced Toolset
• How to read PS3 system error logs using a USB drive
• What Error 1001 and Error 1002 mean
• Delidding the Cell CPU and RSX GPU to improve thermal stability
• Replacing failing capacitors with tantalum capacitors RIP Felix' Tantalizers for a reliable long-term repair

After replacing the capacitors and delidding the chips, the console runs stable again with no more shutdowns during gameplay and improved thermal performance.
