The Real Issue: Interoception
You're not a good judge of your own body. You remember yourself as young and healthy, even if you've had chronic pain for 30 years. When that pain disappears, you don't celebrate—you just feel "normal again." That's why people forget they were helped.
Key Insight:
"The problem came back" ≠ "It didn't work." It means it worked for a year, then your body kept aging. You accumulated 70 years of damage; one shot takes you from 30% function to 50% function, not back to 100%.
The Asymmetric Risk-Reward:
You lose money. You probably won't get hurt. You might improve 20–40%. Most people take that bet. But not everyone.
Gratitude vs. Dysphoria:
One patient drove 8 hours, got treated for hyperacusis, felt life-changing improvement, and gave Dr. Park extra money with a thank-you email. Another spent thousands, felt modest improvement, and decided it was a waste because "the problem came back."
