MOUNT GAMALAMA - Unexpected! Sad Experience While Hiking! Eps 21
Mount Gamalama is a volcano located on Ternate Island, North Maluku Province, Indonesia. This mountain is one of the most active volcanoes in eastern Indonesia and holds significant importance both geographically and historically for the people of Ternate.

Mountain type: Stratovolcano (cone-shaped volcano)
Location: Ternate Island, North Maluku, Indonesia
Coordinates: ± 0.8° N and 127.33° E
This mountain dominates the entire island of Ternate, as almost the whole island is formed from the body of this volcano. In other words, Ternate Island is a volcanic island formed from Gamalama's activity thousands of years ago.
Gamalama is an active volcano that frequently erupts. Records of its eruptions date back to the 16th century. Some of the major eruptions include:
1538 – One of the early eruptions documented by the Portuguese.
1775 – A major eruption that caused casualties and severe damage.
1962, 1980, 1999, 2003, 2011, and 2014 – Small to moderate eruptions that caused ashfall in Ternate. The eruptions are usually Strombolian to Vulcanian in type, producing ash plumes, incandescent rocks, and short lava flows.
The slopes of Mount Gamalama are covered with dense tropical forest at the lower part, changing to high mountain vegetation at the upper part. Many springs, small rivers, and fertile soils originate from the volcanic activity of this mountain. As a result, agriculture around the slopes (such as nutmeg, cloves, and coconut) thrives very well.
