Mount Banda Api is also known as Banda Neira Volcano or Banda Besar Volcano it is an active volcano located in the Banda Islands, Central Maluku Regency, Maluku Province, Indonesia. This mountain is one of the most famous volcanoes in eastern Indonesia due to its spectacular natural beauty as well as its significant volcanological history.
Banda Volcano is considered an active volcano, although its eruptions are not as frequent as some volcanoes in Java. The last major eruption was recorded in 1988, with ash and glowing lava reaching the sea. Previous activities were noted in 1901, 1820, 1699, and several times in the 17th century. Due to its location in the sea, many eruptions produce submarine lava that forms steep slopes around it. This volcano is part of the Pacific Ring of Fire, and its activity is monitored by PVMBG (Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation).
Banda Volcano is surrounded by very clear waters that are rich in marine life. On the lower slopes of the volcano, there are thriving coral reefs, making it one of the best diving spots in the world. From the summit, visitors can see the entire Banda Islands, including Banda Neira, Run Island, and Hatta Island. The lower slopes are covered with tropical vegetation, while the summit is dominated by volcanic rocks.
