December 2012: Hosts are Nancy and Sam Yata. Phone is +678 5621036 or 5358595. Costs about 2000 vatu (AU$24) per person, per night, including breakfast. Extra meals cost between 500 (lunch) to 1000 (dinner) vatu pp. The food was wonderful here; dinner included a flower decorated entrée and dessert as well. There's at least ten lovely little bungalows with wooden floors, bamboo walls and thatched roofs; clean and comfortable. There's an amenities block with clean flush toilets (yay!) and running shower too.
The clip starts with the amazing view over Port Resolution; Captain Cook sailed into the marsh below which was a lake 250 years ago. He saw the glow from Tanna and wanted to explore it but the locals said no, it was tabu for him to go there. We saw the glow of Yasur at night too.
During the day we saw fire walking and basket weaving displays. We wandered down through the village of Port Resolution, to have lunch at Lea's Waet San Bij restaurant and we burned our feet in the hot springs bubbling through the black sand beach just around the corner. Ask for David as your guide if you go, he's a lovely man who will show you all that he can and run up trees for coconuts when you are thirsty.
It's easy to spend a couple of days exploring this area. The Shark Bay trip was interesting too.
