In this video I am learning and practicing a new archery skill which is to keep my bow up whilst successively nocking the arrow. This is my first practice session doing this and after a little go I wanted to share the whole experience and decided to film the rest of the practice session.
This helps with speeding up my shot and I have found it really does make a difference for when I want to loose consecutive arrows much more quickly than my usual standing technique.
This was suggested to me to try by someone (in a comment on the internet) after I released a video earlier this year, practising short draws.
I was doing okay and then hubby suggested that whilst the bow was still raised, lay the longbow horizontally. I tried this and it worked very well. I found it much easier and smoother with the nocking process. It really is helpful to have someone else watching to see what I couldn't see and give good constructive advice.
I have learned especially with traditional archery that it is much more fun and relaxing not to expect pin point accuracy of the shot and just take little steps when learning a new archery skill. I have also found that it is usually quicker getting the results I am looking for.
I really enjoyed this training exercise and look forward to developing it into my muscle memory and with just regular gentle practice, it shouldn't take too long.
During this session I broke an arrow nock, but was still able to use it for the rest of this shooting session. It won't take too long to fix it. I may do a video of how I fixed it or how I fix other broken nocks and not that particular arrow in the future.

A little about me: I am a British traditional, instinctive, female archer who enjoys shooting the English Longbow. I like to explore and experiment with different styles. techniques in many positions and forms. And am always trying out as many creative ways to do so as that i can think of. I also enjoy constructing different targets using many varieties of objects, materials, etc.
I'm happily married to my husband who happens to be my cameraman and does an amazing job of capturing photos and videos of my archery shooting practice sessions. You will hear and see him from time to time.
My main shooting ground is the garden, be it the back, front, side of the yard, doesn't matter to me. Although distance of the shot can be limited, it enables me to practice in my own time and more space to experiment with my shooting training.
I hope you enjoy watching this short video of some of my favourite highlights and shots and have gained some new archery tips to help you in your own archery journey.
