1️⃣ Sometimes your sealing wax looks like it’s the right temperature. The consistency and texture look and feel right, but there’s something about the seal that will let you know it’s not quite warm enough yet. If you see small lines in the wax seal (in the flat area that doesn’t have the design, but still touches the stamp), then you know the wax isn’t warm enough. Let the wax warm up for a few more minutes and then keep making your wax seals.

PRO TIP: Also make sure that you are using pressure to push the wax stamp into the wax. This can also help eliminate those lines.

2️⃣ One way that you’ll know your wax is too hot and is not the right temperature, is if the wax is runny. If the wax is excessively dripping from the glue gun or if the wax is runny when you pour it and it doesn’t hold its shape, you know the wax is too hot. Just unplug your gun, let it cool for a few minutes and then keep working on your wax seals.

PRO TIP: Metallic sealing waxes seem to hold their shape better even when they are too hot. You’ll notice the matte colors will loose their shape when they get overheated. Just be sure to unplug the gun sooner to cool the wax down for matte colors.

3️⃣ Another indicator that your wax is too hot, is if you see bubbles starting to form once you pour it. This means your sealing wax is heating up past its boiling point. All you need to do is unplug the glue gun and let the wax cool for a few minutes and then keep working on your wax seals.

PRO TIP: if you’re making a lot of wax seals, pull out an ice pack from your freezer. Place your stamp on the ice pack in-between making each seal. This is going to help the metal cool down and it will cool the wax faster as well. Just be sure to wipe off any extra condensation that is on the stamp prior to placing it in the wax.
