Lege cracks the Pepsi code
Pepsi Cola is the second most popular cola in Germany – right after its long-time rival, Coca-Cola. Without much fanfare, Pepsi changed its recipe back in 2020. Now it contains less sugar – but also sweetener. They hadn't used sweetener in their classic cola before.
The company justifies the decision by stating that, among other things, they want to "continuously reduce" the sugar content in their products. They haven't completely eliminated sugar, however. Even after the recipe change, half a liter still contains 23 grams of sugar. Plus, that astringent aftertaste – as Sebastian so aptly puts it.
