Harpsichord performance of the Minuet in D minor, BWV Anh. 132, from the Notebook for Anna Magdalena Bach.
Long attributed to Johann Sebastian Bach, the minuet belongs to a group of keyboard pieces preserved in the Anna Magdalena notebooks, which played an important role in domestic music-making and pedagogy in the early 18th century. Regardless of authorship questions, the piece remains a staple of the keyboard repertoire for its clarity of form and dance character.
Presented here on the harpsichord, the minuet is treated as a fully articulated dance movement, allowing its phrasing and proportion to emerge within the stylistic language of the instrument.
