Harpsichord transcription of the Passacaglia attributed to Georg Friedrich Handel, later reworked by Johan Halvorsen.
Originally based on a theme from Handel’s Suite No. 7 in G minor, HWV 432, the Passacaglia became widely known through Halvorsen’s virtuosic arrangement for violin and viola. The work is built on a repeating ground bass, serving as a framework for continuous variation and accumulation.
Presented here on the harpsichord, the Passacaglia is approached as a study in variation, density, and long-range structure, allowing the form to unfold through repetition and transformation rather than instrumental display.
