Harpsichord transcription of Canon in D major by Johann Pachelbel.
Composed in the late 17th century, Pachelbel’s Canon in D is built on a repeating ground bass supporting a series of continuous variations. Originally written for three violins and basso continuo, the work has become one of the most widely recognized pieces of Baroque music.
Presented here on the harpsichord, the canon is approached through clarity of voice-leading and structural balance, allowing its cumulative design to unfold without orchestral texture.
