Dear friends, we’d like to thank you so much for the donations we have received since the beginning of the war. 90.000 Euros! Wow. Thank you so much! Today, I will give you a short overview what we ave done with the money so far.

This is Conrad from Munich Kyiv Queer.

With your donations we have been able to provide help for Ukrainian LGBTIQ* organisations 17 times. They support queer people in Ukraine with shelters, food, medicine, advice and counselling. They have received 1000 (4 times), 1500 (1 time) and 2000 (12 times) Euros.

Since the Alliance Queer Emergency Aid Ukraine (Queere Nothilfe Ukraine), we joined, now exclusively supports Ukrainian LGBTIQ* organisations, we have specialised in helping individuals. The alliance, you may have noticed, has already collected over 500,000 euros in funds.

With the donations we got through my private PayPal account, we were able to help 178 people, about a third trans* persons, lesbian women* and gay men*.

We spent between 50 and 650 euros per person, depending on the need. This is an average of 363 euros per person, nearly a monthly Ukrainian income

What do we spend the money on?

In the beginning, it was mostly about evacuation on the way out of Ukraine or at least to the "safer" Western parts of the country, for transport, accommodation and food. Now, in most cases, the money goes to people who have lost their jobs because their employers had to let them go. So it's simply a matter of buying something to eat and drink. People are hungry.

When it comes to trans* people, we often try to get documents issued that prove their gender status. This is because many trans* women still have an "M" in their passport and are not allowed to leave Ukraine when they are between 18 and 60 years old because of the general mobilisation. Sometimes, we finance medication, once also warm clothes for a gay soldier.

The people you have helped are really very, very grateful for your support. All of them explain their situation in detail, are happy that someone is thinking of them and helps in a sustainable way. Many are moved to tears. We can help so much with so little!

We have collected a few testimonials and videos to show that your donations really do make a difference. Here they are:

• Story from KHARKIV
• Story from NOVA KAKHOVKA
• War Diary from ODESA
• Video Messages from queer people in UKRAINE
• Fled from TERNOPIL
• Chronicle from ZHYTOMYR. Part II
• Chronicle from ZHYTOMYR. Part I
• Chronicle from KHERSON

Those among you who have donated to Munich‘s Rainbow Foundation (Münchner Regenbogenstiftung) helped in a substantial way, too, by the way: Thanks to your support we were able to set up three small paid jobs for our teams Home@MunichKyivQueer (accommodation for queer refugees) and Help@MunichKyivQueer (bureaucracy, counselling, integration, self-help for queer refugees).

We offer you to subscribe to our newsletter to stay up to date.

And yes, of course, if you can, please keep on donating. Unfortunately, this war will not end soon and it is exactly this individual aid that is relevant now. Nobody else in Germany offers such support for queer people in Ukraine. We are collecting on my private PayPal account to help fast, directly and unbureaucratically to people we personally know, without fees, if you choose the option "Transfer to a friend".
