The power company was conducting logging operations in the area to clear trees and brush from the path of the power lines. The ski area beginner slope was the staging area and the choppers were here for at least a week constantly picking up loads in the woods and dropping them off at the ski area.

At about six to ten seconds into this, I started to think of a "ring vortex state" or "settling with power". But since I am not a helicopter pilot, I don't know just how quickly these things can descend vertically without that problem. It probably takes a lot quicker of a descent than seen here.

After the smaller helicopter flies off, the K-MAX arrives to pick up the next load. If you look closely, you can see what look like "tabs" on the rotor blades; Those are like ailerons on a plane and they are used to change rotor pitch instead of the controls acting on the entire blade like on most typical helicopters. The K-MAX has interesting rotors and scarily, they are very close to the ground on the sides when the helicopter is sitting on the ground. They are very powerful lifting machines. I don't know the make or model of the smaller helicopter.
