Professor Andy Way (Adapt Centre, DCU) delivered a powerful presentation investigating the hype and promises of recent Neural MT papers. He questioned if Translators should be afraid of Neural MT and if they would be replaced by it. He offered assurances that the latter would not happen anytime soon and developed a persuasive argument that while Neural MT does offer some clear and distinct benefits, it is not suitable for every situation and content type. Clearly distinguishing the use-case for Neural MT is central to it effectiveness.
