Palestinian Date Ring Cookies كعك اساور
A unique Palestinian cookie that is very close to my heart as it was a favourite of mine growing up are these date ring cookies or called ka3k asawer كعك اساور in Arabic (which translates to bracelet cookies, due to its shape). I would always reach for these first when my mom made them – yes, even over the petit fours and the ma’amoul she would make for Eid. These were it for me!
Putting it all together can look daunting, even though I’ve made it alone many times, it’s always nice to have extra help to get it done fast! But the process of making the dough, and getting the filing made is really so easy and that’s where it matters.
I love sharing these special recipes with you because the smells alone that come from the kitchen after these are baked transport me back to a time and place in my Palestinian mama’s kitchen. She really would go all out when we were younger during Eid to make special treats and those are memories I’ll never forget.
