[TRANSCRIPT] I came up to take care of my dad, who has Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma.
Well, originally, I'm from Michigan. I had lived in Florida, down in Tampa for like the last 21 years. And I got into some trouble and I needed to make real life changes.
I had an addiction problem for 15 years, and I overcame that. And I am here now eight years clean and addicts can recover.
I live here with my two dogs. They are my heart and they love this house. They have toys everywhere in there.
My only option was to hopefully buy a place. When I first heard about the MSHDA Down Payment Assistance Program, I was super excited because it's like a leg up for those who work hard and the down payment assistance program covered like $8,500 will say a down payment. And I only had to come up with 1%, which was $999 to get in my house and my payment is lower than most rents would be.
And I have a three bedroom with a one and a half bath. I like it, its very spacious.
To qualify for the program, I had to pay down a tons of debt and get my credit score up and save money. I had to have about $5000 in the bank just to be sure. I had to take an online course and it was pretty informational as well because it told me how to get my finances in order, where to start, what to pay.
I have an opportunity that I missed out on years ago in my life and circumstances change and people change. And so, you know, to have this house, it's an opportunity of a lifetime for me. And I'm giving it all that I can and more. It gives me a passionate drive to be more successful than just having this house. So it's quite an inspiration to me.
