Many people have a preconceived idea of the homeless and The Salvation Army Lakeland. They picture soup lines, or the iconic red bucket and ringing bell. LkldTV had an opportunity to meet the real stories of homelessness.

We learned how the resources of the Salvation Army’s Transitional Living Program is changing lives in our community. The George W. Jenkins Community of Hope is a 49-acre family-friendly development designed to help families transition from homelessness to independent homes.
After an application and interview process, the program enrolls residents for up to two years and includes access to a fully furnished apartment, financial and parenting classes, a pre-school and child care. The new location provides an encouraging neighborhood with playgrounds, safe streets, and yards for the children to play.
