Welcome to my channel. Today, we're going to look at different ways to ask how are you, so let's dive in!
So, there are a lot of ways we can ask this question. Most of them, that I'll be looking at today, are informal or slang, more colloquial ones, and a couple of formal ones, too. So, we can say: "How's it going?" or "How's it hanging?". That's very slang. Or "How goes it?" -also quite informal. You can also say "How's tricks?" - that's more British English. And I'm sure some of you have probably heard "What's up?". You can also ask "All right?" - that's more for British English, too. And if you want a formal option, you can also say "How do you do?".
Other options are "How are you keeping?" or "What have you been up to?" or "How have you been?" -assuming you already know the person and haven't seen them for a while. And another one, just to finish off with in this section, is "How are you holding up?", but that can imply that something is wrong or difficult, or has been recently for the other person.
Now, of course, there are both positive and negative responses to this question, so let's have a look at some positive responses, some short answers which sound natural and are often used by natives in casual conversation. Of course, the standard answer and quite acceptable is "Fine, and you?". Or, "Fine, how about you?". Other positive responses are "Pretty good". Or, if you really feeling good, then you can say "Oh, I'm on top of the world" or "Couldn't be better", or "Great, thanks". Another option is "Terrific". And if you want a more British accent, you can say, it is usually pronounced "trific".
A couple of British slang or colloquial options for positive responses are: "Oh, I'm smashing" or "Tickety-boo". Then, of course, we do have some negative responses. Some examples are "Awful" or "I've had better days" or "Hectic", "I'm still alive" -which is pretty sarcastic and quite witty (which means funny in an intelligent way) or another slang colloquial response could be "Somewhere between blur and mer". And now, just to finish with, let's have a look at some neutral responses. So, some examples are "Not too bad" or "The same old same old".
I hope you found this video useful and thank you very much for watching. See you next time.
