MADNESS House Of Fun
This whacky 1982 track was Madness' most successful hit in Britain and here in Australia where the English pop/ska band had quite the following. Formed in 1976, Madness revolutionised the music scene with their unique mix of styles all wrapped into a House Of Fun! 'Baggy Trousers' was their first chart success downunder but they had already scored a few hits at home prior to 1980. In 1982 alone, Madness had three consecutive chart entries here: 'It Must Be Love', 'House Of Fun' and 'Driving In My Car'. Their late '82 release 'Our House' would be their best seller in America the following year; making the Top 10; and #17 here in Australia. Their zany videos and the vibey recordings over the years made for some fascinating airplay on both TV and radio; making Madness one of the most distinct and recognisable acts of the 1980's.
With just shy of two dozen British chart entries in the 1980's alone, Madness occupy a significant place in pop culture. 'House Of Fun' is quintessential Madness - a three minute riotous piece of new wave pop/ska. It was a lot of fun to create this clip for it; and it is my very first Madness song on my channel. I have two songs titled 'Madness' - one a cover of a Muse song and the other by Aussie superstar Guy Sebastian. Just some random facts.
