The magnetic stand body consists of two halves made of soft magnetic material, separated by a non-magnetic aluminum plate. In the center of the three-layer block in a cylindrical cavity there is a permanent magnet made of hard magnetic material. The magnet is turned by a handle into two positions: working and non-working.
I purchased a magnetic stand from a metal collection shop. Its handle turned with great difficulty. And the stand was weakly magnetized.
During disassembly, it turned out that the aluminum separating plate was corroded (apparently water had entered), corrosion products got into the gap between the magnet and the body, and the magnet began to jam when turning.
I cleaned and washed everything inside. The magnet began to turn easily and freely.
But the magnetic stand began to magnetize even worse.
This happens because after the magnet is removed from the housing, which is made of soft magnetic material, the housing loses its magnetic properties.
It is necessary to magnetize the housing and magnet together and in the required direction, then the magnet-body system will be a single magnetic system, a single strong magnet.
I decided to magnetize the stand. I magnetized the stand assembly, the magnet was inserted into the housing.
I assembled a circuit for magnetization.
The winding was made from an aluminum busbar with a cross-sectional area of 11 mm2.
I took the number of turns by eye, based on the dimensions of the place where the winding will be located.
I assembled a magnetic circuit from existing iron.
When magnetized, the magnet is set to its working position. And the housing with the magnet is positioned so that future magnetic lines pass from one half of the magnetic stand to the other.
I applied short-term constant voltage from the welding inverter several times.
Polarity is indifferent because the position of the magnet's poles is indifferent. I checked the magnetization. Holds up very well.
Before magnetization, a brass strip 0.3 mm thick was inserted into the gap between the magnet and the body to reduce the friction force of the permanent magnet on the body.
The housing is not separately magnetized. This means that it is made of soft magnetic material.
The angles that I used as a magnetic conductor turned out to be made of hard magnetic carbon steel, and therefore became magnetized. I had to demagnetize them with a homemade device. How I do this is shown in my video:
