Hey guys it’s Chris and in today’s video I am talking about The Spectacular Spider-Man Season One Episode Eleven. This episode is titled Group Theory.
Let’s get into it!
The Sinister Six has had many different line ups, but this is by far my favorite. It features some of Spider-Man's greatest foes. Each member of the Six once fought against Spider-Man and was defeated. Five of them were imprisoned on Ryker Island. All of them have a grudge against Spider-Man, but for different reasons.
Maxwell contacts Otto, who is incarcerated. Otto recruits him to the Six. Electro creates a black out by destroying one of the prison’s generators. Otto and the other villains escape from the prison in order to team-up and seek their revenge against Spider-Man. They escape the prison with Electro’s help and Hammerhead provides their weapons and suits. The Six return to the mainland to lure out Spider-Man.
Spider-Man has recently gained an alien symbiote that attached itself to his suit and granted him enhanced abilities. It’s always so cool to see The Symbiote Suit. The Symbiote Suit is one of Spider-Man’s most iconic appearances.
The Six lures Spider-Man into Times Square and reveal themselves to him one-by-one. A group shot of the Sinister Six that is subtle, but still imposing. This fight sequence is fun and contains plenty of property damage. The Spectacular Spider-Man is filled with some spectacular fight sequences. This is a solid one. The Six defeat Spider-Man with ease, causing the frustrated Spider-Man to escape by hiding in the sewers. Some of The Six follow him but are unable to find him.
Later, The Six lures Spider-Man to the Metro Bank. This time Peter is asleep. The Symbiote uses Peter's body against the villains. The battle then precedes into Central Park. Eventually the Symbiote defeates five of the villains, using their strengths and weaknesses against each other.
Rhino is taken out first, when he accidentally gets in the way of Shocker and Electro’s combined blast. Spidey tosses the unconscious Rhino on top of Electro. Spidey then proceeds to take out Vulture, by ripping apart his flight tech circuitry. Vulture is then trapped in a web between two trees. Spidey uses one of Vulture’s talons to pierce one of Shocker’s gauntlets. While Shocker and Spider-Man battle, Sandman tries to sneak up on Spider-Man. Spider-Man dodges him and Shocker’s blast. The Symbiote learns the ruined gauntlet can disintegrate Sandman. Spider-Man pulls off the ruined gauntlet and drops it on top of Sandman. This makes Sandman unable to reform. Spider-Man receives a hit by Shocker from another gauntlet. This destroys the other gauntlet and renders Shocker powerless. Doc Ock is defeated last. Doc Ock grabs a tired out Spider-Man and tries to impale him on Rhino’s horn. Spider-Man escapes because of Electro’s last blast of electricity. Spider-Man uses some powerful moves and quick thinking to defeat Doc Ock. Spider-Man is about to kill Doc Ock with one of his pincers, but is stopped by Captain Stacey. Gwen's father. This ends the battle between Symbiote Spider-Man and The Sinister Six. This battle causes the Six to disband for the time being. This fight sequence is one of the best of Spider-Man Vs the Sinister Six. It’s electrifying, gripping, and straight up awesome.
My only complaint for this battle is, I wish Peter was not asleep. No jokes, no quips, complete silence when it comes to Spider-Man.
Group Theory is part two of the Symbiote storyline. Part one is good and Part three is phenomenal, but my personal favorite is Part 2. Episode Eleven is a good example why this is still one of Spider-Man best animated series. Yes, the animation style is older but it has the action, humor, and emotion you would expect from Spider-Man.
I’m Spider-ManChris and I will see you in the next one!
