Describes the additional effect that occurs when sharpening the tap. In the last video, I showed how to sharpen the tap on the front surface to restore the sharpness of the cutting edge.
For taps of size M10 and above, the thread profile is backed up. The amount of backing can be judged by the change in the average diameter of the thread along the width of the pen. The average thread diameter can be measured with a thread micrometer.
When sharpening backed taps along the front surface, it must be borne in mind that the diameter of the tap thread decreases in this case, which means that the diameter of the thread being cut also decreases. For example, at the tap shown, when cutting the cutting pen is halfway, the average thread diameter will decrease by 4 hundredths. This reduction in thread diameter may be useful.
There is a UT thread - this is a tight thread that is used to install studs in a case with a radial interference. Such a tight thread is obtained, in particular, with a lower average tap diameter. This is formed when sharpening the backed tap. Such a tap can also be used during repair work when calibrating threaded holes that ensure tight installation of the studs in the housing.
It should be borne in mind that the taps have a reverse cone along the thread profile of 1-2 acres for every 25 mm of the tap length.
Thus, to obtain a minimum average thread diameter, you can reduce the width of the cutting pen and shorten the tap.
Tight threads can also be obtained using a split die by expanding it. This is shown on my channel.
The use of split dies can be seen here: • Применение РАЗРЕЗНЫХ ПЛАШЕК
Thus, by purposefully changing the average diameters of the tap and the die, it is possible to obtain various gaps and interference in the screw-nut connection.
