August Burns Red's song "An American Dream" from their album "Messengers".
This song is about how the American society is deteriorating. We are no longer the greatest country in the world, and it seems like most people around the world don't like us. However, it's our fault because of the way we act. ABR clearly demonstrates that in this song.
"One nation under God, it's us against the world." We are separate from the world. We have more than we need, but we want more. The rest of the world frowns on us.
"Forcing consumption, never hearing no." This could mean a couple of different things depending on how you want to look at it. One way is our government. Our government forces things down our throats, and does not really take into account what the people want. They cannot be stopped. Another way to look at it is that we just keep demanding things. We always need more, when we really don't need it. When we're denied of these things, we throw a fit. We always have to have our way.
"We've brainwashed out children to believe this is destiny, spoiled rotten, still counting their 1, 2, 3's." Living a life of getting everything you want and more is not the way we were designed to live. We should learn to work for what we want, rather than just receiving everything. Children are not learning this because their parents spoil them. They're already spoiled beyond their comprehension at a very young age.
"Disease infesting our young, beauty has become the beast." What once was the greatest country in the world is now dwindling on greed, distrust, and anger. We need to strive as a country to get back to where it once was. Our country will continue going downhill until everyone decides to make a change.
