August Burns Red's song "The First Step" from their album "Rescue and Restore".
This song is about the current state of the "metal" scene, if you want to refer to it as that. The song is about pushing boundaries, stepping out of your comfort zone, and changing a stagnant routine into something greater. ABR, obviously, is pushing the limits of modern day metal with more complicated rhythms, a different sound, and many other elements within their newest albums. Rescue and Restore is now on the verge of a progressive metal style that is unlike anything I've ever heard. That was their goal. Who wants a new album that's the exact same one as the previous with different words? No one. ABR is sending a message that they are growing weary of the lack of creativity in the music scene today.
"Time makes changes. Humanity makes mistakes. Mistakes make answers." Time creates a stagnant process, so you have to create and step out to keep from becoming complacent. People don't branch out because they're afraid of failure, but sometimes the greatest failures can lead to the greatest successes. Mistakes can bring about new ideas.
"We live to learn. We live to love. We live to die." We are living for a reason. Don't just follow the current. Don't just fit into the mold of society. Be different and stick out. Question the standard. Do something about it.
"Evolve or die." If you are not constantly changing and bettering yourself, you will fail. You will become extinct. If you are not moving forward, then you're falling behind.
