Get Rid of Cocklebur Growing on Your Property! [Weed Management]
Cocklebur is a summer annual weed found in the United States, with stiff hairs and prickly burr seeds that easily stick to skin, clothing, and animal fur. Cocklebur emerges in spring and grows tall, upright stems with multiple branches. It produces clusters of flowers from June to November, containing round flower heads and ovular burrs containing seeds. To eliminate cocklebur, use a selective, post-emergent herbicide labeled not to injure turfgrass. For cool-season grasses, use 2, 4-D Amine, while for warm-season grasses, use Fahrenheit Herbicide. Spot-treat any cocklebur plant on your property, using a fan or cone spray pattern to ensure leaves are fully coated. Reapplication intervals range from 21 to 30 days for 2, 4-D Amine and 4 to 6 weeks for Fahrenheit.
