Lawn maintenance is an essential responsibility every homeowner can easily keep up with. It controls insects, weeds, and fungi on your property, and
it encourages good turf health while adding to your home’s curb appeal.

Maintenance Tip: Know Your Grass
Depending on where you live in the US, your grass falls under one of two categories, warm-season or cool-season. Your turf’s species & type will determine many things like when it grows actively, which pesticides are safe to apply over your grass, or how much water it needs every week.

Maintenance Tip: Pest Control
“Pests” refer to any unwanted animals, insects, weeds, or fungi on your property. Proper pest control and implementation of Integrated Pest Management not only protect your lawn but also your home and garden.

Maintenance Tip: Proper Irrigation
Excessive water in your turf will open it up to fungus and disease development. In general, most lawns only need about 1 inch of water every week. Water your lawn in the morning.

Maintenance Tip: Clearing Lawn Debris
Leaves and fallen bark or branches smother grass, provide cover for insect pests, and collect moisture that promotes fungal growth. Rake your lawn and pick up debris regularly so your turf gets more sun & airflow. Excess water will also properly drain or evaporate.

Maintenance Tip: Fertilization & Timing
Different grasses have specific fertilization windows depending on whether they are warm-season or cool-season grasses. The best time to fertilize cool-season grasses are during fall & spring, while the best times to fertilize warm-season grasses are from mid-spring to summer. If your grass is in the transition zone, identify it to find the best application timing.

Maintenance Tip: Mowing Properly
Mowing your grass too short will stunt its growth. Grass will respond by growing shallower roots, absorbing less nutrients & water with a weaker grasp on the soil. Mow away no more than ⅓ of the turf’s height, ideally to a height of about three inches to encourage good root development.
