Mealybugs are soft-bodied scale insects that feed on ornamentals and other plants in your garden. They’ll produce honeydew that attracts different pests like ants or wasps and build up on leaves to develop sooty mold. Their outer waxy coatings protect them from most contact sprays, so to control mealybugs over larger spaces, apply a systemic insecticide that can be absorbed into treated plants like Dominion 2L. To drive the product into the root zone, make high-volume applications with a hose-end sprayer. When properly applied, Dominion 2L will translocate through a treated plant. Mealybugs that feed off the plant will ingest the pesticide. To get rid of mealybugs on houseplants, use either a cotton swab dipped in rubbing alcohol and apply to individual scales, or use a spray bottle. The alcohol will work to burn mealybugs immediately.
