Narcissists aim to become your only source of direction and information. You can fight against this by seeking advice from people you trust; just be careful not to take the advice of those who try to bring you back into the arms of your abuser.
Narcissism is the biggest opposing force to rights. Once people find themselves in a narcissistic relationship, they'll experience emotional and verbal (sometimes physical or sexual) abuse. Narcissists leach off of their victims, using them for all the can get and when they can extract no more, they discard their victim.
