Food Content Has a Politics Problem
Do youtube food and cooking content have a problem? Stream of food content on youtube seems to be never-ending, with cooking, entertainment, mukbangs and comparison videos - everything you can wish for is on the table. (pun intended)
One topic tho seems to be missing. Despite the fact that food is deeply intertwined with politics in real life - it is nominally absent from food content on this platform. Meanwhile, as I highlight in this video essay, food insecurity, hunger and famines are on the rise across the globe for the first time in decades.
In the end, apolitical content feels good, but I believe in our strive for feel-good content and entertainment we are losing grip on gloomy reality of the unfolding food and hunger crisis.
