This Aristocrat dates to the months before the attack on Pearl Harbor that catapulted the United States into World War II. For most of the wartime period, Royal either cut back sharply on typewriter production or curtailed it entirely, retooling its industrial capacity for the manufacture of weapons, ammunition and airplane parts. The Aristocrat name wasn't brought back into use by Royal until 1956.
