1940 Royal Varsity typewriter at work
According to the online Typewriter Database, this minimalist model was built only from 1939 until Royal curtailed most of its typewriter production and retooled for armaments in March of 1942. It's one of the most compact machines I've seen from Royal in this era, and it weighs just under 10 pounds.
