We can use everyday examples of doubles to help children to remember them. For example, in many places eggs are packaged in two lots of 6 eggs, so many children know about double 6 equaling 12.

Ten frames are also useful for helping students to visualize the addition of two equal amounts, such as double 7: as shown in the video, the left-hand ten frame will have 3 empty spaces, which can be filled using 3 from the second ten frame, making 1 ten and 4 ones, or 14.
