Teacher Math Lesson: Count on 2 Addition Facts
Younger children may want to use a "count all" strategy, which obviously is not very efficient:
e.g., 6 + 2 = ? : Count "1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8"
It is advantageous for children can learn to add small amounts up to 3 using a "count on" strategy, making sure that they start with the larger number, then count on.
e.g., 6 + 2 = ? : Count "6, 7, 8"
We recommend using either ten frames or a number line to help children to use the counting number sequence for this strategy.
