This was not my first visit to this excellent public space, free, in the former Mortuary of Paris, France. The range of activities and services here and all the art available to the public here, plus great hangout and pickup opportunities and a free book exchange, make this a true asset to the city and the 19th arrondissement. You can lose yourself in this place for hours.
I truly do not recall this artist's name, but I think it's a woman named Sournous. There is a famous Nike de Saint Phalle installation here my spouse wanted to see, and I was glad to make the effort to get down here from nearby Saint-Denis on a Paris Sunday afternoon.
I didn't really understand this stuff, but I enjoyed looking at it.
If you are visiting Paris, I can certainly recommend you include this huge place in your tourist itinerary, especially because the down to Earth neighborhood is so nice, all mixed, lively but orderly, and this place is so interesting, relaxing, educational, and useful. Most people here seem to be locals. Children seem to love it here, and there are good public toilets and an indicated changing room. Old fogeys such as myself are welcome as can be, and I am disabled and find it quite accessible. I don't think you can take dogs in, however.
What a strange place is shown in these photos! I didn't make a recording of the video shown from which these come, as I wasn't sure how it would come out or if there would be copyright problems.
You can get here on the excellent Paris mètro or any variety of buses, et c. The tramway network in and around Paris is being hugely built. It's a noisy nuisance, all the works, but the tramways really are great. The bus, mètro and tramway all use the same transport ticket -- always buy them in ten-packs ("carnets") for great savings. Avoid those tourist public transportation passes. They're a cash cow for the city and won't really save you anything at all!
I the video, a woman takes a small suitcase on wheels on a train and through a strange complex of people-movers, elevators, spaces. I think this is in Isreal or Palestine, et c.
Photos without flash and making clips here always seems to be permitted. It was for this.
