The Conan Doyle Pub
St Mary’s is the Cathedral Church of the Archdiocese of St Andrews and Edinburgh, and contains the National Shrine of St Andrew, Scotland’s patron saint.
Masses are held daily at the Cathedral, which also runs a programme of spiritual and social events.
Next door to the Cathedral sits, The Conan Doyle pub, a shrine to one of Edinburgh’s best-loved writers. Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, the creator of fictional detective Sherlock Holmes, and author of The Hound of the Baskervilles, was born just across the road, on Picardy Place, and the location is marked by a statue of Holmes.
For Message from the Skies, The Conan Doyle has been transformed into The J.K. Rowling, in honour of the author of the author of the hugely popular Harry Potter series of books, which were written here in Edinburgh.
The Conan Doyle (The J.K. Rowling) is also open daily, serving up food and drink, as well as information about these great authors.
