Chapter 2 of Val McDermid's New Year's Resurrection
The National Library of Scotland

Scotland’s largest library has a collection of over 15 million printed items, seven million manuscripts, two million maps, over 32,000 films, and 25,000 newspaper and magazine titles.

With a particular focus on Scottish literature, history and culture, the National Library of Scotland is home to the John Murray Archive, which records over 200 years of history relating to the publishers of Jane Austen and Lord Byron; the Scottish Screen Archive, which preserves over 100 years of Scottish history on film and video; and the Muriel Spark Archive, which contains personal effects of the late Edinburgh-born writer Dame Muriel Spark.

The National Library of Scotland is open to the public daily.

2018 marks the centenary of Dame Muriel Spark’s birth. The free exhibition, The International Style of Muriel Spark takes visitors on a journey to the places around the world that Muriel called home. Archive material and personal items reveal the inspirations behind her literary and fashion style. The exhibition runs until 13 May 2018
