The UPS Teamsters National Negotiating Committee is pushing the company to do the right thing on issues that are important to members, including recognizing the upcoming Juneteenth holiday as a paid holiday.
The nation honors Juneteenth as a day to commemorate the freedom of enslaved African Americans. But at UPS, our brothers and sisters are forced to work on a day that even the federal government recognizes as an official holiday.
"We are currently negotiating the UPS National Master Agreement and we are insisting that Juneteenth be placed in our agreement as a recognized holiday," says Matt Higdon, a member of the National Negotiating Committee and the Teamsters’ National Grievance Coordinator for the Package Division. "Our own country recognizes Juneteenth as a national holiday, which unequivocally shows that it should be in every contract, especially the largest collective bargaining agreement in the country at UPS."
